Decca Tree, Ex. D, Four Violinists
TOR / ODESSA Montreal / Subject 1 / Anatomy of a Mix / Decca Tree / Example D
The interaction of the violins is best captured from the perspective of the Decca Tree, as the system is placed with the intent of finding a balance between source and room sound. The violin section playing in this excerpt is only about half the size of the full orchestral version, however at four players this iteration is now comparable to the size of a chamber string section. There is the sense that incipient blend is periodically broken by slight shifts in intonation or bowing timings, (not to mention the odd instance of jetting) but the overall performance now has a coherence to it.
