Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60, composed in 1806, premiered in March 1807 at a private concert in Vienna at Prince Lobkowitz's town house. The first public performance occurred at Vienna's Burgtheater in April 1808. This symphony, overshadowed by the more famous Third (Eroica) and Fifth Symphonies, is predominantly genial in tone. It marks a departure from Beethoven's Third Symphony style, offering a lighter and cheerful character. Dedicated to Count Franz von Oppersdorff, the Fourth Symphony has often been overlooked but was admired by later composers like Berlioz, Mendelssohn, and Schumann.
